Lekki Shooting: I’m Not Dead – Lady screams upon seeing her “RIP” online
A woman allegedly killed by the Nigerian army during a shootout at #ENDSARS protest at Lekki Tallgate, Lagos said she was still alive and generous.
He said the rumors of his death were allegedly an attack by unscrupulous elements hiding under the End SARS protest to tarnish his image.
On Tuesday 20 October, security officials reportedly fired on #ENDSARS protesters outside the toll station in Lecchi, leaving the death toll still pending.
The shooting incident also sparked national and international protests, with Lagos State and the federal government calling for the identity of the shooters and those who fielded them to be revealed.
The alleged victim of Lecky Tallgate’s death, Stephen Becky, spoke to our correspondent on the phone on Tuesday, calling the news of his death “false and incredible.”
Becky, who graduated from Jire Education Center in 2018, hails from Rivers State, where she currently resides with her father and six other siblings.
According to her, he received word of his death from a friend of his older sister, who captured him from the group and sent him in direct message (DM) to his sister.
“Someone posted a picture of me with the people filming Lecky-Tallgate. I was very sad and angry that someone used my photo to write RIP (Rest in Peace) when I was still alive.
“Please, I want people to know that I am alive, the stress they create for my parents and siblings is too great,” Becky told the Vanguard community in an exclusive interview.
The Rivers native said her mother had to leave the village to check on her when she heard the news of her death and urged members of the public to ignore the news.
Vanguard learned that the alleged news of Miss Becky’s death was first posted by a Facebook user, but later brought down by the latter when he ran into a friend of his sister’s first.
Reacting to this, Ihuoma Tabor, a friend of Becky’s sister, described this story as a lie as she recounted how the saga began.
“I went online and saw the message (Becky’s obituary); I’m a member of the Facebook group, so I will definitely check what it says, unless it’s online. I saw the message because a person attached it to this group. I immediately took a picture and called Becky’s older sister to confirm.
“So when I heard her (Becky’s sister) voice, I told her what I had seen and sent it to her. She told me that her sister (Becky) was with her and that I should give up this story.
“I spoke to the lady who posted this news to dispel rumors of Becky’s death, but to my surprise, she (the poster) replied,“ Okay, she’s surviving. ” I scolded her, but she never answered “
Tabor said about his relationship with the alleged victim; “Becky Stephen is my friend’s younger sister and also my student at school. This is a person whom I know so well, he has no problems and he respects people. “
However, he warned those who spread rumors about Becky’s death to refrain from such actions.
“So I see no reason why anyone could write such things about her. They should stop publishing news of his death, ”he concluded.
