Prophet Tayo Shobovale, 50, was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.

He was arrested for raping a 17-year-old church member during a prayer meeting at the Oke Igbala Church in the Ifo district of the state.

SaharaReporters reports police arrested the Shobovale prophet, who is in charge of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Oke Igbal, Ifo, following a report from the victim’s family.

According to the police, the family reported that at some point in March 2021, the Prophet invited the teenager to church for prayer, and there the Prophet took advantage of the fact that Du was only for a prayer session to receive the carnal knowledge of her with power.

The victim also claimed that after an illegal relationship, the prophet ordered her to take a spiritual bath in the church with a spiritually prepared candle, which he rubbed on her body.

State Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyemi said the victim has since complained of a spiritual seizure that has always caused her to fall and remain unconscious for hours.

Oeyemi said: “The 50-year-old prophet in charge of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Oka Igbal, Tayo Shobovale, was arrested by the police for illegally acquainting himself with a 17-year-old church member.

“The suspect was arrested after the victim, accompanied by his mother, arrived at the precinct after filing a complaint with the Ota District Command Family Support Group. Following the report, the Ota District Commander detailed his family’s support group at the site where the outcast prophet was immediately arrested.

“During interrogation, the suspect initially denied the charges, but when he confronted the victim, it was very difficult for him to drop the charges.

“Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Edward Avolovo Ajogun has ordered a thorough investigation of the case and indictment of the suspect in court as soon as the investigation is completed.”
