While showing reporters the headquarters of the authorities, Nkposong said the hooligans were not robbers, but mercenaries brought into the city specifically to attack the city.
Some of the alleged robbers reportedly asked for money to keep them from attacking the Cross River Basin Development Authority.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, Chief Executive Officer of the Cross River Basin Development Authority (CRBDA), Engr. Bassey Edet Nkposong, said his failure to immediately raise 15 million N15 million on Saturday led to rampant looting of all offices and boarding houses, destruction and burning of 34 cars and factories across the basin city.
While showing reporters the headquarters of the authorities, Nkposong said the hooligans were not robbers, but mercenaries brought into the city specifically to attack the city.
He said that the chief of the mercenary army told him, “Give us $ 15 million if you want us to save the CRBDA. No more, no less. “
Nkposong said he tried to negotiate and also promised N5 million, but their leader refused.
He said that some of the staff may have supported or condoned the thugs, and that ongoing investigations would lead to many.
