Austin Cheng, a 34-year-old man from Nigeria, is running for the post of governor of the US state.
Chengji is running for Governor of Michigan in the United States of America (USA) in 2022, NAN reports.
A statement by Abdul-Rahman Balogun, head of public affairs and media at the Commission on Nigerian Diaspora Affairs (NiDCOM), indicated that Chengue, a native of Benue State in Nigeria, would challenge United States Representative Lamar Smith for a ticket according to the Republican Party.
He said that Chengji announced his intention to run for governor of Michigan in March 2020, making him the first Republican to do so.
According to the statement, the young Nigerian is the embodiment of the American Dream, which has repeatedly stunned critics, realizing what most people would consider impossible.
“Chengji received his law degree from the University of Birmingham, England. Since 2018, he has served in the US Army as a Specialist. He was awarded the Medal of Achievement as a Graduate Honors with a Graduate Performance Average (CGPA) of 99.8% and for outstanding achievement during active service. “
The statement said that Chengji is popular with locals thanks to the development in 2016 of a popular tricycle known as the “Wazobia Tricycle,” designed to improve the lives of farmers across Africa.
