An unidentified mother abandoned her newborn in a landfill in Ebonyi state.

The child was reportedly found in a sack on Wednesday at Igweogbuofia Street, Kpirikpiri, in the state metropolis of Abakaliki.

Speaking to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Abakaliki, an eyewitness, Ms Chinwe Madu, stated that this action was not taken in the area.

Ms. Chinwe insisted that the child’s mother must have committed this act somewhere and threw the body out on the street so that she would not be identified.

“This evil was not committed in the area, but the author decided to dump the child’s body here to cover up his act.” Said Madu.

In response to the event, Mr. Sunday Nwonu, responsible for environmental health at the state’s Department of the Environment, said the department would work with the police command to evacuate the child’s body.
