NANS gives Makinda 3 days to deal with Amotekun’s brutality against Oyo residents
After the backlash following the operations of the social safety net in the western states, codenamed:
Amotekun, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Oyo state government to create a machine to reorient body agents.
The ultimatum arose after a series of alleged misconduct by certain agents of the organization since its inauguration by State Governor Seyi Makinda.
The student community in a statement signed by the state association president, Comrade Oluwafunmbi Mayova Opakunle; Secretary General Comrade Okhetola Babatunde; The head of public affairs, Comrade Adeleke Quadri, provided by Shabbat Vanguard, said that Amotekun’s body has shown over time that he needs further instruction on modern security approaches and their relationship with the masses in order to properly coexist and manage their tasks. while they will need the stakeholders they need to track criminal elements among the population.
The statement added that this is the best way to overcome security threats posed by bandits and other criminals and avoid unnecessary victimization of people.
The statement goes on to say: “We have written several times to inform the Oyo State government and the entire state population of the surplus of the newly commissioned Western welfare system, the Amotekun Corps, but this seems like simple propaganda to many. an attempt to undermine the efforts of the state government to combat the rampant rebellion of insecurity in the state, as the defendants also posted publications in these cases to distort the charges against them. “
“But truth and reality cannot be hidden for a long time, just as fiery steam cannot be hidden; The Amotekun Corps has demonstrated time and time again that they need further guidance on modern security approaches and their relations with the masses to coexist properly and fulfill their responsibilities, as they will need the necessary stakeholders to track the elements of criminals among the population. “
“Because this is the best way to overcome security threats from bandits and other criminal elements and avoid unnecessary harassment of people.”
“This group of people was deprived of the moral ethics of modern security operations and the training necessary to ensure it, and acted in complete contradiction with the method and purpose of their adoption, disclosed to the public, because they cannot be understood in any way. repeated violations and attacks against innocent citizens. We must remember that these actions are a copy of the reasons for the intensified #EndSars protests that shook the entire country. ”
“Earlier, we called on the government of Oyo, as the government of the state that hosts this axis of the National Student Association of Nigeria, to deal with the perpetrators of these reported crimes, otherwise the alleged state security will be just a farce than expected, but everyone was useless, and there was no positive reaction at all, in fact the situation worsened and again the Amotekun Corps fell victim to the NANS Oyo State JCC Public Relations Officer, with many more cases of harassment of innocent students in all areas of the state. “
“We all agree that the security system of Western states, Amotekun, is new and still a child compared to other security services in the country. Everyone must be part of their success if we all want to sleep with our eyes closed. ”
“We urge the Oyo State government to devote more time and more attention to the successful management and administration of the Amotekun Corps to achieve the desired outcome.”
“Despite our greetings and willingness to always work with the state government to keep everything working in our beloved state of Oyo and to defeat the state’s main enemy (insecurity), we were rather greeted with rejection, which was perceived as inappropriate, unworthy, null and void and inappropriate. but we cannot continue to fold our hands and act as if nothing is happening while innocent disciples become victims. “
“We are always ready to contribute and scold where necessary, so we go directly to the state government and demand that the Amotekun Corps be properly refocused, retrained and familiarized with the moral ethics of modern security operations before it is rebuilt. in society to avoid registering more victims in their name, as this could generate a great response from our side as an association defending ours. “
“We are issuing a 72-hour ultimatum to the Oyo State government since Monday to address these issues, or waiting for a more proactive response from the association; which means there will be clashes on our way by Thursday, January 14, 2021, if the state government remains as unconcerned as we are invited, ”the statement said.
