NBC sanctions lead TV, channels and MTA to cover #EndSARS

Arise Television, Channel Television and African Independent Television AIT were fined by the National Broadcasting Commission for what they called “non-professional coverage” of the #EndSARS protests in the country.

NBC interim CEO Prof. Armstrong Idachaba said this at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.

Last week, NBC warned all TV and radio stations not to report #EndSARS protests in a way that could embarrass governments or individuals, cause discontent, provoke panic, or disrupt society.

The Nation reported that television stations were accused of broadcasting unverified footage of the alleged shooting at the Lecchi toll station.

The Daily Trust, on the other hand, reported that NBC fined Television, AIT and Arise TV N3m for their coverage.

Idachaba, who added that DAAR Communications would be fined separately for using unverifiable news about the incident at the National Christian Center, warned that this would be the last warning before the harsher punishment was introduced.
