President of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), revealed that the agency has seized 2.3 million kilograms of illegal drugs in the past 10 months.
Marwa told Plateau Governor Simon Lalong, who visited Jos on Tuesday, that the seized drug was worth 120 billion N.
The head of the NDLEA also said the agency arrested, prosecuted and secured the convictions of more than 500 drug dealers and drug users over the reporting period.
The president, who denounced the prevalence of drug abuse, particularly among young people, said it also contributes to the insecurity the nation currently faces.
“The prevalence of drug abuse in Nigeria is alarming and we need drastic measures to stem the tide.
“From January to today, we have seized 2.3 million kilograms of hard drugs worth 120 billion N
“We also arrested, prosecuted and incarcerated 500 drug barons during the reporting period,” he said.
