Nigerian army renames Northeast operation
Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru of the Chief of Staff of the Army (COAS) has approved the renaming of the current counterinsurgency operation in the northeast from Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) to Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).
This is based on the fact that the Nigerian Army (NA) has made great progress over the years and needs to be overhauled to be effective.
Also interested in changing the name are army supercamps, which now reflect the nomenclature of formations and units, followed by the names of the positions they occupy, since the units have been converted to expanded operating bases (FOB), followed by the name of their positions. All these changes take effect immediately.
The renaming is in line with the COAS vision of “having a Nigerian army set up to professionally defeat all opponents in a common environment.” According to the COAG, the complete defeat of the uprising is a process that requires the participation of the entire nation using all elements of national power. He also assured that the National Assembly under his leadership will continue to follow the path of solidarity in the war against the rebels.
