Nigerian man beat his three-year-old daughter to death
A man named Patrick Akpan was jailed for beating his daughter to death.
The ruling was issued Wednesday by the Chief Justice of the Peace in Yaba, Lagos. A 35-year-old man who is a security guard allegedly beat his three-year-old daughter to death with a belt. Police charged Akpan with manslaughter. Chief Magistrate of PE Nwaka did not grant Akpan’s request due to lack of jurisdiction. Nwaka ordered that the case file be duplicated and a copy sent to the Director of the Lagos Prosecutor’s Office for legal advice.
Nwaka updated the case to February 23rd to seek advice from the GP. Earlier, ASP prosecutor Thomas Nurudin told the court that Akpan committed the crime on December 27, 2020 at the Jakande Estate, Phase 11 in Lekki, Lagos. He said that Akpan beat his daughter with a belt for destroying his house.
Police said the victim died in his mother’s arms when he was taken to hospital.
According to him, the crime violated the provisions of section 224 and is punishable under section 229 of the 2015 Lagos State Penal Code (revised).
