A Nigerian who committed the villainous act of excavating corpses for money told the shocking story of how he involved his friends in this incredible interview for Saturday PUNCH.
Abdullahi Dogo (30 years old), Suleiman Abubakar (50 years old), Babuga Mamman (42 years old) and Abubakar Abdullahi (31 years old) from Sabon Pegi village in the Mashegu local government area of Niger were recently arrested by the police. state, because it supposedly has a human head. Dogo tells ENIOCH OPARA that the buyers ordered him to take the human head from the cemetery for N2m.
What do you do for a living?
I am a livestock breeder. I take care of someone’s cows, but the money I get at the end of the month is not enough to take care of my young. Since our parents died, it has become difficult for us that we cannot boast of two meals a day. So when the problem of getting the human parts came up, I had no choice but to join so I could take care of my younger ones. I also have a small shop where I sell everything I need, but it doesn’t help at all.
Who commissioned you to get a human head before calling others to join you?
I was assigned the task of Nasir from Koko, Kebbi State, and Muhammad from Sabon Pegi in the Mashegu local government area. They told me to go to the cemetery in Kanti village and bring him a human head for ritual purposes, and they promised to pay me N2m amount upon delivery.
But when I found out that I couldn’t do it alone, I invited three friends to join me. I told them from the beginning that buyers would pay N2 million if we got the head, and that was a welcome idea. So we all got down to business and headed to Kanti Cemetery to collect the head. Unfortunately for us, we were arrested by police from the Ibbie department on a tip as we left the cemetery on October 3rd around 5:30.
How long do you provide your buyers with human details?
To be honest, this is the second time I have been involved in this atrocity. Some of my buyers have my number to contact me when they need a human part. In fact, I have been working in this industry for almost a year and I can tell you that it was the difficulties that pushed me into this desperate situation. Nothing moves in this country, so I have to do my best to survive and pay the bills, but it was a shame that we were eventually caught.
Have your accomplices already been involved in this work?
No, they were not part of this business. They are just friends of mine and I felt like I could share N2m with them if the buyers paid. I apologize for what they went through. They may be bad people, but I don’t mean that they are ritualistic. It was I who got them into this mess. I told them about my business and they joined me to complete the deal.
My concern is that we were not paid for this position. Nasir and Muhammad were nowhere to be found. The rest of the suspects are in custody with me. We have committed a heinous crime that cannot be forgiven.
I had no other means to feed my family: the suspect was arrested for exhuming a human head
What is your name?
My name is Suleiman Abubakar,
How did your friend Abdullahi Dogo persuade you to join him?
First, he called me and said that he wanted to see me to discuss matters, and I told him to meet me at my house, as we are from the village of Sabon Pegi to Mashega LGA. He told me about two human head buyers who desperately needed her for ritual purposes and agreed to pay N2 million after training. After arguing with him, I gave him my word that I would be a part of it, but I reminded him that this is a risky task. However, I never knew that the long arm of the law would overtake us. Now we all suffer from it and deserve any punishment inflicted on us. Let the law take its course.
Why did you accept the offer from him?
We all know the conditions in the country, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the economy of the country and the world as a whole. I actually accepted the offer because I didn’t have the money to take care of my family, especially now that the bandits won’t let us go to the farm; nothing works. To be honest, I can say that I became an accomplice in this crime because of hunger.
Does your family know that you are engaged in this illegal activity?
My family doesn’t know about this. How can I tell them that I am involved in ritual affairs? As I speak, my family does not know where I am. This is unfortunate. I don’t think they will forgive me. I can’t even remember how it happened at all; going to our village cemetery to exhume corpses is the worst crime I have committed in my entire life. Now I am concerned about how to tell my wife and children about this. Where do I begin? They won’t forgive me. I’m broke. Even my relatives will not accept me back, knowing full well that I have done a bad deed against my religion, Islam. I think I will be banned for this unusual act.
I’ve already planned how to spend my share of suspects
What is your name?
My name is babuga mamman
Where were you when Dogo called you to join him in this business?
I was in the village when they called me and asked to join him at a specific location very close to the Kanti cemetery. I immediately rushed there, and he told me about it. I assured him of my cooperation, provided the money was distributed fairly. When we started to act, we got the head that buyers wanted. As we left the cemetery to deliver it to customers, we met our Waterloo, as we had been arrested by police from the Ibbi department at the Mashega council on a tip.
When you were arrested, how did you feel?
I was sorry that, firstly, I would not have any more money, and, secondly, because I was going to pay dearly for it. I thought it was my friend Dogo who arranged it. But later I realized that we all agreed. When we were in the cemetery, I thought no one was seeing us, and I was already planning what to do with my part of N2m, but it didn’t work.
How long have you been with Dogo?
This is my first time. I was not in this business. I am a local farmer in my area, but I stopped farming due to security issues that are devastating our community. Many people stopped farming for fear of being killed by bandits, so in the village we are doing everything to survive. When Dogo opened this business, it was hard for me to resist as I didn’t even have the money to feed my family.
