Nigerian Senator Talks How SARS Agents Kill One Of His Voters

Nigerian MP Senator Nicholas Tofovomo from Ondo South Senatorial District spoke about the #EndSARS protests.

The senator said Friday that agents from the disbanded anti-robbery squad had killed one of his voters, SaharaReporter reported.

Tofovomo announced this in a statement by its Special Assistant for Media and Advertising Akinrinlola Olumide.

The senator also thanked Nigerian youth for their protests against police brutality.

He said: “I congratulate young Nigerians for protesting against the brutality of the notorious police unit known as SARS in recent days. While I support young people in protesting against the ongoing killing of innocent souls by security agents, especially people from the SARS unit, this is a slap in the face to all of us – an insult to Nigerians; a simple name change from SARS to Special Weapons and Tactics by the Inspector General of Police.

“The problem with the police system in Nigeria goes beyond naming and renaming a specific unit. Nigeria’s internal security is a complete disaster, ranging from escalating police brutality, impunity, human rights violations, ruined infrastructure, scarce funding, unwavering official corruption, analogous police, and more that should not be underestimated.

“Nigeria needs police reform. The police system in Nigeria does not fit the modern society. “
