Nigerian woman throws baby down a well to return to her ex
Faith Alhassan, a 20-year-old mother, was arrested by police in Kaduna.
The girl was arrested for the murder of her one-year-old daughter.
Faith Alhassan threw her daughter into a well, ostensibly to allow her to marry her ex-boyfriend, who was not ready to accept her with the child.
Faith, who has a high school diploma, said she had no idea what was being imposed on her.
The Kaduna State Police Command reported that at about 7 a.m. on December 28, 2020, the body of a little girl was found in a well in the village of Gantan in the metropolitan area of Kachia State.
Police also said that after receiving the report, an investigation was conducted and it was found that the mother of the deceased child was the culprit, The Nation reported.
According to police, the perpetrator traveled to the village of Gantan with his little girl to meet her ex-boyfriend named Dolan Yakubu, whom she left many years ago.
Police said Faith told them that while she was at her ex-boyfriend’s house, her father complained about the baby, so she went quietly at night to dump the baby down the well.
Speaking to reporters at the Kaduna State Police Department, where he is currently under investigation, he denied killing his daughter because she wanted to marry her ex-boyfriend.
The young woman, who said she lived with her grandmother, also said that she did not know where the father of her dead daughter was.
When asked why she was in command of the police, she replied: “I am here because of my daughter, whom I threw into the well, and she died. I do not know what came over me when I accomplished the feat. “
When asked if it was because she wanted to marry her ex-boyfriend who killed her daughter, she said with tears in her eyes: “I didn’t kill her because I want to get married, I don’t know what came over me, I’m not glad I killed. “
Kaduna State Police Commissioner, CP Umar M. Muri, said she would be brought to trial after an investigation.
