Nigerians ask FG to suspend NIN registration
Nigerians, who fear contracting the deadly coronavirus from infection, while trying to register for a mandatory national identification number (NIN), have called on the federal government to temporarily suspend the process.
Remember, large crowds of people seeking registration at centers across Nigeria and the risk of COVID-19 stormed the offices of the National Identity Management Commission in all states to register for their NINs.
The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has ordered subscribers to link their mobile numbers to their NINs, otherwise they will be blocked after January 18.
Reacting to posts by The Nation on social media, especially Twitter and Facebook, regarding the crowd at NIMC Ikeja gathering overwhelming promises, they expressed their displeasure at the federal government’s insistence on registration, warning that its succession would be exacerbated by the coronavirus infection in the country.
Many Nigerians believe that the registration process should be suspended due to the raging COVID-19 infection.
Abiodun Aruleba said: “This is a disaster – the opening of thousands of branches across the country, such as post offices, ministries, mobile service provider centers, private sector agencies. Local councils. This will ease the pressure in the country. This is what they should have been planning for a long time. “
Chenemi said, “@NCDCgov, what’s wrong with social distancing, stay safe? Or is COVID afraid of the crowds in NIN’s offices? This is one of the fastest ways to spread the virus. Mass transfer from the community. Please recommend “
Professor Augustine Achidime said: “This is why many call Nigeria a country where there are no major controversies. This raises the question, is there rarely a sincere campaign by the GOS to contain the spread of Covid-19? !!! “
Olu Rafael said: “Very soon the PTF will appear on national television and he will continue to say that the Church and the school are causing an increase in the number of cases…. Please, is this a school or a church now? Make good public policy, not all these accusatory games “
Olaytan said: “FG should immediately suspend or postpone NIN recording and other forms of mass rallies or gatherings unless the government is prepared to deal with the wave of COVID-19 infection. I hope you won’t wait for people to start dying before you take action. “
Obetta AS said: “All branches of government are out of sync. While one is fighting Covid-19, the other is increasing the spread. “
Slim Amasiani said: “This is the height of irresponsibility on the part of the Nigerian government. Do they know we are fighting a pandemic because of a loud scream? OH MY GOD!”
Sampson said, “Would anyone advise this government to postpone registration until the end of the pandemic? Where is PTF? Doesn’t it concern them? “
