Nigerians Attack Former President of Liberia on Twitter for Supporting the Removal of NNA Director General Hadiza Usman
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the former president of Liberia, has been criticized by Nigerians on social media for denouncing the removal of Hadiza Bala-Usman from his position as CEO of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
On May 5, President Muhammadu Bukhari approved the suspension of Bala Usman’s powers after reports of a cold war between her and Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi.
She was accused of not transferring NPA operating profits to the Consolidated Income Fund (CFR), but she denies this accusation.
Amayachi has set up an 11-person investigation team that will review the NPA on all contracts awarded since 2016 when she became CEO.
However, Sirleaf tweeted Saturday that Bala-Usman’s suspension was discouraging her.
Liberia’s first female president said she knew she was an experienced leader and a dedicated civil servant.
“I am disappointed to hear of the removal from office of the head of the port of Nigeria @hadizabalausman, whom I knew as a recognized leader and loyal civil servant,” reads the tweet.
“I call for the rule of law and fair and equitable treatment as the situation develops.”
