“Nigerians have a fundamental right to protest”

Bazedon February 13, 2021

“Nigerians have a fundamental right to protest”

The 1999 Nigerian Constitution, as amended (section 40), guarantees the right of citizens to peaceful protest.

The courts have also confirmed this right. Anything that contradicts this is unacceptable and condemned.

Security officers are responsible for ensuring a safe and conducive environment for peaceful protests by citizens, in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and the African Charter of Human Rights.
