According to NAN, as many as nine middle school students drowned on Friday after two canoes capsized on a river in the northern region of Ghana, according to police.
Bernard Baba Ananga, Ghana Police Service Northern Regional Crime Officer, told Xinhua that about 31 students were in canoes, which they used to cross the Oti River to a farm.
But two of the canoes capsized on the way back.
“Rescuers have managed to recover seven bodies and searches are underway for two others who are still missing,” said Ananga.
Police said an investigation was underway.
