NLC announces 5-day warning strike to lay off 4,000 workers

The Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC, Kaduna State Council have announced a five-day warning strike.

According to the NLC, the strike will begin on Sunday, May 16, 2021, by 12 noon (midnight) after laying off more than 4,000 workers.

He said the five-day ground resolution would be implemented.

The president of the NLC branch in Kaduna, Comrade Ayuba Magadji Suleiman, and the secretary of Comrade Christian’s John Bawa, in a statement provided to reporters, said the decision was made during an emergency meeting held in Kaduna with a delegation from the NLC national headquarters.

They complained that due process was not followed in the recent layoffs of more than 4,000 workers from the local government service, SUBEB and the primary health care agency by the Kaduna state government.

According to the NLC, “the proposed termination of services and protest will be overseen by the President of the country and the Secretary General of the Nigerian Workers’ Congress.”

NLC has assured staff in the state that additional directives will be issued to all government officials as soon as possible.

The statement calls on civil society organizations, journalists, market women and men, Okada bikers and well-meaning citizens to support state workers during this difficult time.
