no restrictions will prevent Tinub from running for president in 2023
Professor Itse Sagay (SAN), renowned law professor and civil rights activist, said on Monday that it was Southerners’ turn to nominate a successor to President Muhammad Bukhari in 2023 to preserve the country’s unity and ensure justice and fairness.
Speaking exclusively for the Daily Independent, Saghai, who is chairman of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Advisory Committee (PACAC) and head of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also said there was an informal zoning agreement that would require the party to honor the president’s standard bearer in the general election. 2023 in the selection.
Although no agreement was written, he said, the founders of the PCA agreed that the presidency would move to the South after the North completes its two eight-year terms.
Sagai also said that President Bukhari should not be the only one who will determine his successor or openly declare himself in favor of any of the candidates, but only support his potential favorite with his voice.
“It is not he (Bukhari) who should determine who will be his successor. APC has a process called primaries.
“The armored personnel carrier also has informal zoning. They did not write the agreement, but everyone agreed that after the northerner serves two terms, the southerner will be named by the APC as a presidential candidate.
“So, it was the southerners’ turn to compete for the nomination. The northerners would have completed their shift by 2023, just to ensure unity, equality, and so that no one would mistake the other for a fool. “
“So, I believe the president will make sure that the candidate is southerner. He can support the candidate with his vote, but I don’t think it will be fair if he says, “This is the person I want to change.” Candidates who are Southerners must have a field level game to challenge the votes of the people who will vote in the primary. ”
Speaking also about the presidential ambitions of the national leader of the party, Asiva Bola Tinubu, Sagai said that nothing prevents the former governor of Lagos state from challenging the country’s top political post.
“Of course he (Tinubu) can compete. He is a potential presidential candidate along with many others. Yes, there are no restrictions or obstacles that prevent him from participating in the competition if he wants to, ”he said.
