no sustainable development without adequate infrastructure
The president, Major General Muhammadu Bukhari (retired), said on Tuesday that no country will witness sustainable development without developing infrastructure.
He then thanked the People’s Republic of China for supporting infrastructure development in Nigeria.
His Special Adviser for Media and Advertising Femi Adesina quoted the president as receiving State Counselor and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Wang Yi at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The statement was titled “Sustainable development is impossible without adequate infrastructure,” said President Bukhari at a meeting with China’s state adviser.
“We thank China for its support in various ways; in the construction of railways, highways, energy, defense and many others. You are helping us to reduce our serious infrastructure shortages, and we are happy about that.
“There can be no sustainable development without infrastructure development”, Adesina quoted the President.
He said that Bukhari promised that Nigeria will continue to fulfill its commitments with China “as you are making a great contribution, which we greatly appreciate.”
A presidential spokesman also quoted Yi of applause, which he described as “mutual trust and lasting personal friendship” between President Bukhari and Chinese President Xi Jinping, noting that “he presided over bilateral relations between our two countries.”
He added that China loves to kick off diplomatic work of the year from Africa, and Nigeria has been selected as the first port of call in 2021 as this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“The State Councilor described Nigeria as a country with great regional and international influence, adding:“ We trust, understand and support each other. We will continue to appreciate each other. ‘
“Mr. Yi said that his country will encourage Chinese companies to increase their investment in Nigeria, and China is willing to share its expertise and technology in areas such as the digital economy, defense and more,” the statement said.
