NSCDC retrieves dead child abandoned in Jigawa

The body of an abandoned child thrown into a landfill was recovered by the Nigeria Civil Protection and Security Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa Command.

The body’s public relations officer, Adam Shehu, confirmed on Monday to the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Duce.

Shehu said the body was found by scavengers around 10:30 am Sunday in the vicinity of the Takur settlement.

He said: “On Sunday, May 16, 2021, at about 10:30 am, I personally received a call from my plumber who lives in the Tukur site, Duce, and said that what looked like a dead abandoned child was found, neatly packed in a bag … a group of children rummaging in a landfill.

“The NSCDC response team was immediately mobilized to the scene, and upon arrival it was discovered that part of the child had already been burned in the fire that was burning in the landfill.

“The body of the child was handed over to the head of the district department, Malam Bashir Tukur Jinjiri, for burial after proper consultation.”

According to him, no arrests were made in connection with the crime.

However, he added that the command conducted a thorough investigation with the aim of arresting the criminals.

“At the moment, no one has been detained in connection with the crime.

“The commander of the NBC State Alhaji Garba Muhammad strongly condemned this cowardly act and ordered a thorough investigation to find the culprit.”
