Obasanjo explains why COVID-19 didn’t kill him in 2020
Olusegun Obasanjo thanked God for not letting COVID-19 kill him in 2020.
The former president of Nigeria said God kept him alive to witness 2021 despite last year’s troubles.
He called on COVID-19 survivors to thank God for his mercy.
According to Obasanjo, God spared him in order to “serve Him and humanity more and more.”
Obasanjo said this while speaking at the second annual Thanksgiving Service of the State Branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria, held Saturday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.
He said, “Our duty is to thank God. You will be the most ungrateful person if you do not fulfill your duty to thank God.
“Thank you under any circumstances. Therefore, if you do not give thanks, you are violating your very important Christian duty.
“Last year 2020 was very busy not only for us in Nigeria, not only for us in Africa, but for the whole world.
“The fact that you are alive requires you to thank God. No matter how you look at it, those you know thanks to Covid-19 are no longer with us, not because you are better than them, more informed than they are; it’s only by the grace of God.
“And if God gives you this grace to stay on earth again, maybe for a purpose, and I believe that part of that purpose is for you to continue serving humanity and serving God. You cannot be a servant of God if you cannot thank him.
“The purpose of staying here is to fulfill our Christian duty by giving thanks to God.”
