Orji Uzor Kalu Condemns Attack on INEC Abia Office

Former Governor of Abia State Senator Orji Kalu responded to the attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in the Ohafia Local Government (LGA) Abia region.

Recall that the INEC office was set on fire on Sunday by unidentified criminals, as a result of which electoral materials and furniture were destroyed.

Kalu, in a statement released Wednesday in Abuja, called the act undemocratic and uncivilized.

The former governor of Abia state has called on law enforcement agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the attack to identify and prosecute those responsible.

He stressed that Nigeria’s growing democracy must be protected in the name of development.

While urging the political class to uphold democratic virtues in its efforts, Kalu stressed that politics is not a do-or-die business.

He said: “The attack on the INEC office in the Ohafia local government area in Abia state is futile and unacceptable.

“Nigeria’s electoral body, INEC, has supported its leadership in promoting and maintaining democratic principles in the country.

“Sponsors and attackers are the enemies of the country.

“I am asking security forces to track down the people behind the attack in an attempt to prevent a recurrence.”

Kalu also urged INEC to stand up to its efforts to uphold the principles of democracy in Nigeria.
