Ebony Governor Dave Umaha’s plan to move to the All-Progressive Congress, APC, has already caused a stir among members of the People’s Democratic Party.
Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, has warned the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party of the People’s Democratic Party of the expected flight.
This came after reports surfaced that Umahi was planning to ditch the People’s Democratic Party (NDP) in favor of the ruling party. Fani-Kayode responded by saying he had not yet confirmed the news, but described Umaha’s alleged defection to APC as alarming.
Other governors could join Umaha in defeating APC, he said, affecting the party’s chances of winning the 2023 presidential election. The PDP chief wrote on his Twitter page:
“Rumors that my friend and brother, Ebony Governor David Umahi, is planning to leave @OfficialPDPNig and join @OfficialAPCNg are troubling.
“I have yet to confirm if this is true, and I will see it in the next few days to find out the true state of things, but if so, then I urge the PDP leadership to do everything possible to keep it unchanged. He is not only a very good person and an excellent governor, but his contribution to the success of the NDP over the past 20 years is, to one degree or another, immeasurable and simply incredible. “In addition, he is a good friend of mine and someone whom I respect very much, respect and love immensely. Unlike many, he is frank, and his word is his pledge. Either he is with you, or against you, he is without frightening, brave and courageous, like his convictions. “
Fani-Kayode also urged NDP national president Uche Secundus to do everything in his power to persuade Umahi to stay with the party. “What’s worse is that other governors might also consider leaving if he does, because he has many friends and goodwill among them.
“If this happens, it will have a very significant impact on our party’s chances in the 2023 presidential election.” Once again, I urge the President of the country and the NWC of our great party to do everything possible to keep Umahi on board. one of our brightest and best, and it would be a colossal mistake and a great tragedy to lose it to an APC, ”he said.
Fani-Kayode added that Umahi is needed by the NDP because he is a great asset for the opposition party. “The point is that we need him just like everyone else, and minor disagreements and internal disputes at this crucial moment do not help.” Umaha is a great asset for the party and a source of strength and inspiration for the file. level across the country, ”he added in his tweet.
