Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has been appointed for a second term.
President Muhammadu Bukhari approved the statement released Tuesday by his assistant Femi Adesina.
Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, who was appointed head of INEC in 2015, was given another five-year term to observe the 2023 general election.
The statement says:
“President Muhammadu Bukhari introduced the President of the Independent National Election Commission, prof. Mahmoud Yakubu for a second term.
“In a letter to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lavan, the President said, in accordance with the provisions of Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended):“ I am pleased to submit, for Senate confirmation, the appointment of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu as President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ) for the second and last term ”.
“Professor Yakubu was first appointed by President Bukhari in November 2015.”
