railway contractor Kano-Maradi to build University in Rivers
Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi announced on Monday that the contractor in charge of the Kano-Maradi railway line will build a university in his home state of Rivers.

Amayachi, who served as governor of South-South state for two terms, said the company will build the university as part of its corporate social responsibility to Nigeria.
“We are already building a transport university in Daur. Therefore, we decided that the Portuguese company Mota Engil, which is in charge of the Kano-Maradi railway line, will build a multidisciplinary university in Rivers State as an important component of its corporate social responsibility, ”the minister tweeted on Monday.
Amaachi also said Sunday that construction of the $ 1.959 billion Kano-Maradi standard gauge railway will begin on Tuesday.
The President, Major General Muhammadu Bukhari (retired), is expected to halt the project virtually from Aso Villa to Abuja.
PUNCH previously reported that the $ 1.96 billion Kano-Maradi railway line connects Nigeria and the Republic of Niger, and the federal government said it would raise funds from European countries.
Amachi also said the 248-kilometer line should help transport crude oil, which the government has announced will begin importing from that West African country.
But the People’s Democratic Party and many civil society organizations described the project as a loss of priority.
