Rep. Gombe found guilty of “lying”
The legislator representing the Billiri / Balanga federal constituency in Gombe State in the House of Representatives, Victor Mela, was convicted of “swearing” in his CF001 form, which was presented to the INEC Independent National Electoral Commission as a candidate for the 2019 General Election.
However, the Supreme Court in Zone 6 of the Wusse District in Abuja, which ruled in the police case against the politician Gombe, postponed his sentence.
Reacting to developments in tweets posted on Tuesday evening November 10, Mela said she would appeal the court’s decision.
“Dear voters, over the past few hours, I have received several calls and messages from relatives, friends, colleagues, supporters and voters inside and outside the country regarding my conviction by the magistrate court on charges of“ false declaration ”on FORM INEC CF001 during the last elections in National Assembly.
Whether or not this case is registered, it constitutes an outright criminal complaint brought and filed by the Honorable. Ali Isa JC versus my humble self, the commander of the FCT police station, Maitama.
It should also be noted that I have previously filed an affidavit with the FCT High Court to correct the defect in the INEC form mentioned above, and I have also requested newspaper publication as required by law.
Let it be known that a lot of water has passed under the bridge on issues related to the mandate that you gave me free of charge in 2019. In time we will get the cat out of the bag; and our people will know that this has happened so far.
While maintaining my innocence and appealing today’s decision of the Magistrate’s Court, I would like to invite our friends, supporters and sympathizers to remain calm and be sure that I will challenge today’s wrong decision in a court appeal, I would like to invite our friends, supporters and sympathizers to keep calm and be sure that I will immediately appeal today’s erroneous decision to the Court of Appeal.
In the same light, I will continue to serve as my office as a legislator representing the good people of the Balanga / Billiri Federal District, Gombe State.
The seat in the House of Representatives, which I occupy today because of your trust and your trust in me, remains unchanged. Together we will win! Thank you all!”
