dear listeners. We continue our consideration of the sermon “The Requests of Your Heart”. Second part. We ended up last time on James 4: 2-4. Once again, I beg you, dear listeners, be very careful now. Here the apostle James clearly explains why you “do not receive” an answer to your requests. But this explanation is just a small one, and one of thousands of reasons that prevent getting answers to prayers. Article 2 gives three reasons: lust , envy, and enmity .
(The word “lust” is replaced in the Russian text by the word “desire”.) If these things are in the hearts of the children of God, then there will be no answer to prayer. You can appeal to the Lord for 25 hours daily, but He will not answer you, because you are asking not for good.
And v. 4 indicates your connection with the world: “… whoever wants to be a friend to the world, he becomes an enemy of God .”
This is what the Word of God says, but we didn’t take Him seriously enough, so it became a stranger to the children of light. As long as believers are connected with these things (and I add that they are connected), God cannot fulfill the requests of their hearts.
If we want to fulfill the desire of our heart, and for this we will pray a lot and sincerely (to deify the Lord, as our text says), then this , nevertheless, is possible only through our deep repentance, cleansing and sanctification .
It is impossible in any other way. Consequently, not only by staying in prayer for a long time will we get the Lord to answer our requests. The Lord speaks of such people in the Gospel of Matthew 6: 7:
“ And when praying, do not say unnecessary things, like the Gentiles; for they think that in their verbosity they will be heard . “
Figuratively speaking, about such people we can say that they turn into a prayer mill, but this will not help. This is one side of this issue.
On the other hand, we must thank the Lord if He, the Almighty God, does not immediately give an answer to our every request . Often He delays the answer, because from His point of view the time has not yet come for the fulfillment of our requests.
In our requests, we are often ahead of the Lord’s plans. If the Lord would follow our lead and immediately give answers to all requests, then we would have a constant spiritual immaturity that brings great harm to the believer, and instead of benefit and gain, would deprive the Lord of glory.
We see only the animate and inanimate objects around us, and what is behind the building in front of which we are standing, we no longer see. I remember a pre-war expression that said: “You must not wear party glasses”, because they only see to the tip of the nose.
This also speaks to our topic. This formula is still valid today. I think that the people who own these glasses don’t even see to the tip of their nose today, but get stuck halfway. So, we see only what is present, but God sees everything in eternity!
In my life and yours, God makes decisions from an eternal perspective. Therefore, let us now trust Him in faith . Otherwise, my faith is just vanity.
If I say that I have faith, but do not walk by faith, and at the same time I condemn others for their lack of faith, then I am a poor person. I made myself spiritually poor in the generous hands of the Lord. So, let’s trust Him, and do whatever His Word says.
This trust is trust in Jesus. We cannot have any other trust. If our trust is not tied to His Word, then it is tied to our sins.
Now a stunning, poisonous and vile sentence will follow, which is directed against Jesus: “What else can I do to get out of this situation when the Lord does not respond to my prayers?”
Once again, I will show you the path that will lead any believer out of this impasse. Let us remember this sentence well! This path leads only through deep and sincere repentance, purification, sanctification, abundant perception of the Word, obedience to the Word, living connection with Scripture and walking in God’s love.
This path is accomplished not in severity, but in the love of Christ. If He showed us harshness and toughness, then we would have landed in Gehenna. But He met us in His love and it is good for the one who accepted it. Such a person approached the Lord.
The visible sign of this , as our text says, is : the deification of the Lord . It often takes a lot of time until we sort ourselves out and put ourselves in order before the Lord; until we courageously reject the world with all its enticements and passions, so that Jesus Christ alone stands before our souls.
You must want it! If you don’t want it, then it will never come true.
If we have accepted Jesus, then our heart and all our insides must be filled with Him, then other things will no longer have a place in us. Even when eccentric believers attack us in their unholyness, the echo from us must reflect the being of Jesus.
To deify the Lord means : to die with Jesus . How? In the epistles of Romans 6: 5 and 2 Corinthians 4: 10, the Bible says: “… united with Him in the likeness of His death .” “We always carry in our body the deadness of the Lord Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body .”
In this matter, the children of God need to make up for a huge omission, since our spiritual death is associated with our old man and sins. With regard to the new creation in us, which cannot sin, we cannot say this.
What should be done to get out of this position so that you can deify the Lord? The children of God who stand on such a spiritual level and are able to do this make up approximately eight percent of all believers.
Unfortunately, there are not many of them. I would be glad if there were up to 20 percent of them. The faithful Lord, in His mercy, teaches us practical life. If we avoid the love of the Lord in order to remain unaffected by this test, then we will not get out of these difficulties in any other way. I assure you of this.
God does not provide substitutes for His truth. In one word, this instruction in the Bible is called: to overcome or conquer . The Lord in abundance gives such an opportunity in His love to everyone, as well as personally in your life.
But you will not progress towards the goal unless you show the Lord the practical fulfillment of this instruction. If at work, in the congregation, in the family, etc. they ignore you, constantly contradict you, then you should not seek your right, you should be silent.
At the same time, you do not even have the right to shed tears, because for the Lord these are tears of self-compassion. This is a test for you from the Lord, for which you must thank Him. By not doing so, many believers fail.
Whether the Lord will be able to take a step forward with you depends not on Him, not on others, but only on you. If you are constantly annoyed at work, family, or in the congregation and you constantly feel misunderstood.
It is not others who are to blame for this, but your unrefined being, your unholyness. If because of this you decide to change your place of work, meeting or family in order to be where you are understood. And Satan is cunning, he will do it!
That situation and time in your life is extremely ripe for you to come to Jesus and proclaim His victory at Calvary. Otherwise, the victory will be won by the other, the one who whispers his ideas to you. Proclaim the victory of Jesus loudly and rejoice in the fact that He gives you the dignity to become more like Him.
Bring all your need to Him daily in prayer, and try to please the Lord in your trial. Which way? By overcoming your Amalek. You must win over him, overcoming him not by your own efforts, but by the power of Christ.
It is not in vain that in the Epistles to the seven churches in Rev. 2 and 3, Jesus says to each church: ” To him who overcomes I will give …” And after each such call comes God’s promise. But whoever cannot tear himself away from the essence of his flesh, from his Amalek, since he is madly in love with him and does not want to free himself from him with all his might, he will defeat his own evil.
Your heart is overflowing with this evil by nature: Romans 12.21 ” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good .”
The most beautiful thing is that in this test we can and should look to the Lord. Only through such overcoming will we come to a glorious and valuable victory: the deification and glorification of the Lord.
Deep communion with Christ will enable you to do this too. To reach such a valuable depth of faith, one must get rid of all sins and all the transitory values of this world. Who, nevertheless, will keep this, he refuses the Lord.
The purpose of the Lord is to bring us to such a level of faith so that we deify and glorify Him. Who of us, to whom the Lord speaks today through His Word, is ready to seek Him as the Scripture says: “ Seek the Lord, when you can find Him …” (Is.55.6), he will win.
Jesus wants to see great joy in us. But since He paid for our salvation with His life, the great joy belongs first of all to Jesus. Do we now notice what is hidden behind the one word “deify”?
Pray for this, fight for this, shout to the Lord, humiliate yourself before Him and before people, otherwise you will not achieve this position. Because of the joy that lies before Him, that you will do this and will deify Him already here on earth, He endured the cross.
In addition, the Lord does not want us to be saved as “from the fire,” but also wants to have joy in our walk. He deserves it! Does not God’s love motivate us to strive with all our might and with full dedication to penetrate into His being and be transformed?
Every brother and sister who doesn’t walk or want to walk this path loves other things more than Jesus. Therefore, in the Gospel of John 14:21 it is written: “ He who has my commandments and keeps them, he loves me. .. “
Only hearts filled with the love of Christ can deify Him. And this ” love of Christ compels us … so that those who live no longer live for themselves, but for the one who died for them …” (2 Cor. 5:14-15).
We must live for the Lord. But if we strive to live for ourselves, and do not distinguish between the compulsion and the invitation of His love, then how can we deify Him?
And if joy in the Lord is our strength, then what can be stronger than our Lord? What can remove or keep us away from Him? Not the Lord, anyway. In the Gospel of John 10:29, Jesus says: ” My Father … is greater than all …”
If you fulfill in your heart what is written here, you will have faith. Do you not believe in His greatness, that He can and wants to reveal Himself in you in all His magnitude? The word explains: ” He who does not enter the sheep’s yard by the door, but climbs somewhere … “.
And if so, then you will deify Him, and the Lord will become so dear, sweet and valuable to you, as you have never known Him in your life. Give glory to the Lord for all this. Amen.
