Residents of Rigasa protest El Rufai’s mismanagement in Kaduna

Some residents of Rigasa in Kaduna state have protested against the unsafe environment and the demolition of their stores without warning or compensation from the state government.

On Friday, protesters took to the streets in Riga, led by the local government of Igebi, with placards singing anti-government songs to express their disappointment at what they described as a serious injustice.

Rigasa was the most densely populated settlement in the area and is said to have witnessed a series of bandit attacks that killed many of the villagers.

Although the rent was paid through the local government with official receipts, the state government demolished their stores without any compensation or notice, they said.

Protesters also complained about daily attacks, kidnappings and rape by bandits in the community.

Residents, accusing Senator Uba Sani of Kaduna’s central senatorial district, of insensitivity to their situation, said the senator had never been in the district since he was elected to office.

They explained that his polling stations in the local government remained closed after the elections.

Residents have promised to continue the protest until their demands are met.
