Benue State Governor Samuel Hortom issued a stern warning to the state’s shepherds, asking them to abide by the laws of the country or to travel to Bauchi State to carry their AK47s.
His comment came a week after Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed defended AK47 shepherds.
According to Governor Bal, the shepherds are always armed with AK47s because society and government do not protect them.
Speaking at a state event today, Feb.22, Governor Hortom said;
“Nigeria is still not governed. This is not a banana republic. It is governed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Constitution empowers our governors in all 36 states to preside over their state land on behalf of the people and only those people who can give instructions and allow people to stay where they are.
And therefore the bandits cannot find the forest, come and hide while they live in this forest. I want to tell these Fulani terrorists. They shouldn’t get to the Benue state. They must go to Bauchi and stay with him.
Benue State is governed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Benue State also has laws that govern them. So, once you become a Fulani and arrive with legal papers, you can stay in good health and conduct business in accordance with the laws of our country. Anyone who does not wish to respect the laws of our country should go and meet Bal Mohammed and you can bring AK47 there. “
