School kidnappings also occur in developed countries, ”says Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture.
Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed said that kidnapping of schoolchildren by bandits also took place in the most developed countries of the world.
The minister said this in an interview with Channel Television about the growing insecurity in Nigeria.
Kidnapping and banditry have increased in Nigeria recently, with Kasina and Niger State the victims of high-profile kidnappings in schools.
Talking about the development of events, Lai Mohammed said that terrorists do not live by the rules of the government and are interested in soft goals, he said that in 2020 there were cases of kidnapping in at least 4 US schools.
Mohammed noted that kidnapping of school-age children is attracting more and more attention around the world, so kidnappers are involved in them. He also said that intelligence gathering is most important to him, as Nigeria cannot turn all of its schools into barracks.
The minister, who announced that the current administration is considering transferring students to schools with security, also recalled how suicide bombers attacked places of worship in the country several years ago.
