Shooting from the Lekki booth: how Malami accused Bukhari of the commander-in-chief’s incompetence – HURIWA
According to the Nigerian Human Rights Writers Association HURIWA, the Federation Attorney General and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami accused President Muhammadu Bukhari of the Commander-in-Chief’s incompetence.
HURIWA, a frontline activist group made the remark in response to allegations that uniformed criminals may have attacked End SARS protesters outside a toll station in Lecchi, Lagos state.
Several armed men in military uniforms shot and allegedly killed several demonstrators at a toll station in Lekki. On the other hand, the Nigerian army has denied the involvement of soldiers.
Reacting to the protests, Malami said the criminals in military uniform may have attacked the protesters.
However, a statement from HURIWA national coordinator Emmanuel Onwubiko and media relations director Zainab Yusuf called for President Muhammad Bukhari to fire Malami.
The statement reads, in part: “We condemn the statement by Federation Attorney General Abubakar Malami that uniformed thugs may have attacked peaceful protesters at a toll station in Lekki.
“This is an accusation against President Muhammadu Bukhari as the commander in chief of the armed forces.
“We are asking the president to fire Abubarkar Malami.”
