Soldier Adzunna Maduabuchi sentenced to death

A military tribunal in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, sentenced agent Azunnu Maduabuchi to death.

Maduabuchi was convicted of the murder of his unit’s assistant, Lieutenant Babakaka Ngorgi.

Soldier Maduabuchi was charged with murder after he shot Lieutenant Ngorgi at close range in July 2020 at the local government of Bama Borno State for refusing to grant him a social assistance pass.

He was sentenced to be shot Tuesday after being found guilty during a trial held in the Maimalari canton, Maiduguri.

Four other soldiers, charged with manslaughter, were sentenced to several years in prison. Sergeant Sani Isaya was sentenced to four years, Bidemi Fabiyi to two years, and Private Musa Bala and Private Abdulrahid Adamu were sentenced to one year in prison.

Another soldier, Mohammed Kudu, was sentenced to three years in prison for shooting a 12-year-old boy at a wedding.

Corporal Aja Emmanuel, charged with only one assault charge, was demoted to private.

The indictment and conviction of lost soldiers is in line with section 106 of the Armed Forces Act.
