Strong explosions, shots to rock Maiduguri, Scores Feared Dead
Loud explosions and gunfire that engulfed parts of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, resulted in numerous casualties and injuries.

This forced many residents of the affected areas to flee.
The explosion and launch of rocket-propelled grenades, which began at about 5:45 pm prior to the presentation of this report, were heard in Kaleri outside the Maiduguri, Adam Kolo, Limanti and Kagarmari University areas in the metropolis.
Sources also said that shots were heard in the area of the Fori and Cashew common plantations near the Giva military barracks.
Sources said armed rebels were behind the attack, trying to infiltrate the city while the troops attacked them.
Maiduguri has not witnessed any invasion of Boko Haram for a long time, although last Sunday Army Chief of Staff General Ibrahim Attahira issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the troops during an operational visit to the state to reclaim the local government region of Mars, which is currently under the control of Boko Haram.
One of the fleeing residents of Kagalmari, Ahmed Abba, near the Biu Polar Wire in the Gwange area in the city center, said that “a violent explosion that took place at one of the rallies resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries.
In addition, according to sources, one of the grenade launchers fired by the militants in Kaleri killed an unknown number of residents, others were injured.
All attempts to obtain confirmation from the police public relations officer, DSP Edet Ocon, were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
