Suspected 70-year-old ritualist escapes lynching young men after being caught in Ondo
According to Vanguard, Pope Michael Omolayo, a 70-year-old grandfather suspected of ritualism, was arrested in Akura, the capital of Ondo state.
The suspects, who were nearly lynched by angry young men in Oke-emesho in the metropolis of Akure, were accused of tying large quantities of human hair in a barber shop for ritual purposes.
Reports say the 70-year-old is working in partnership with a woman and another accomplice, Desmond, who collects human hair from local barbershops.
The Vanguard learned that two accomplices were collecting human hair from shops and then delivering it to the alleged ritualist. It is reported that some residents of Oke-emesho noticed the woman while she was gathering her human hair and immediately sounded the alarm.
It is said that he confessed and brought young people and some residents to the ritualist’s house, and some fetish items were discovered there.
An attempt by angry young men to set fire to the house of a ritual suspect was thwarted by the head of the community, chieftain James Abiodan, who pleaded for the case to be turned over to the traditional Deji ruler of the land of Akure, Oba, Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo.
Abiodun told the young people that the issue was delicate and could only be resolved by traditional means. The surprised human-haired woman reportedly confessed to the charges at Obas’s palace.
The monarch’s chief spokesman, Michael Adeyay, who was contacted, confirmed the incident. Adeyai added that the monarch had ordered a thorough investigation of the matter in order to resolve it in the traditional way.
He also confirmed that some fetish items were found at the alleged ritual residence.
