Suspected cultists kill, cut off victim’s hand in Ogun
Aye brotherhood member identified as Michael Jaiola was killed by suspected cultists from Aye in Ogun State.
Ogun State Police Commissioner Edward Ajogun reported that the Aye and Aye fraternities terrorized Ijebu-Ode and its surroundings, engaging each other in a battle for supremacy.
Ajogun said that on Saturday at the Ijebu-Mushin market, Jayolu was killed and tracked down by members of the Eye brotherhood.
He explained that Jaiola had been beaten by the suspects and that his right arm had been cut off and taken away by the aforementioned cultists.
On Sunday, five members of the Aye fraternity, namely “Debo Ademola, Adebis Idovu, Kehinde Adebisi, Abimbola Idovu and Kwadri Femi, were arrested by the police,” the report said.
Ajogun said the detained suspects confessed to belonging to the cult group Aye.
They are said to have also confessed that over the past month, “they engaged the members of Aye in a battle for supremacy that led to the death of Jaiola.”
Over the past month, Ajogun said the battle for supremacy between rival cult groups has witnessed the mutilation and death of members of the two groups, increasing fear of crime and making life difficult for innocent residents.
Police during a parade of alleged cultists on Tuesday explained that about 16 people were recently arrested for attempted murder, murder, robbery and sectarianism in the area.
According to police, six firearms, 15 live rounds and battle axes were seized from the suspects.
