Suspected Fulani shepherds kill 11 in new attack on Benue community
Some people, suspected of being Fulani shepherds, attacked the Benue community.
They invaded the Mbakyondu community in the Gwer West local government area of Benue state, killing at least 11 people and injuring others.
According to the Daily Post, the incident occurred at about 4:00 am on Saturday while residents were still asleep.
The LGA’s Media Assistant to the President, Mr Oudam Samuel, said the bodies of the victims were turned over to the morgue in Naka, headquarters.
According to him, law enforcement agencies have been deployed in the affected area to return to normal conditions.
He said: “The security authorities took action at the direction of the president of the LGA.”
Udam, a native of the community, added that some members of the community were still missing since the bodies were found.
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Anen Katherine, confirmed the incident.
In a text message, the PPRO noted that a group of officers had been deployed in the area to prevent further attacks.
“A group of police officers is deployed in the area to prevent further violations of law and order. Additional information will be passed on to you, please, ”added PPRO.
