Suspension of FG elevators when replacing SIM

The federal government on Thursday canceled a previous ruling to suspend the replacement and activation of the old SIM (subscriber identity module) card, but on condition that the person registered and received a national identification number (NIN).

On December 9, the federal government announced the suspension of the sale and activation of new SIM-cards in the networks.

It was assumed that the suspension order will be in effect until the completion of the audit of the subscriber registration database, which is aimed at achieving world standards and quality in the issue of SIM cards.

NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, who announced the suspension in a statement issued by the Commission, said the action was necessary in line with the federal government’s desire to consolidate the results of the exercise. SIM card registration September 2019.

The Association of Authorized Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), which announced the lifting of the federal government’s suspension in a released statement, said: “In addition to commitments to the government on this matter, we are pleased to announce that Our members have been granted permission to replace the SIM after verifying the customer’s NIN … As such, our members are working with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to ensure a seamless connection to the system for NIN verification. ”

In a statement signed by ALTON President Gbenga Adebayo and his Advertising Secretary Damian Udeh, it says: “We are aware of the challenges customers face when seeking to replace or renew their SIM cards following the suspension and activation of government SIM cards, which also included the replacement SIM cards.
