The assassins have joined the APC, we will not touch them
Interior Minister Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola says assassins are allowed to participate in the Congress of all progressives.
However, he did not mention any of the alleged killers.
Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State, spoke Friday at his Ifofin, Branch 8, East District of Illes Local Government, after re-confirming his membership with APC.
He said that a wide variety of people can join the party, but he advised avoiding people with questionable temperaments when it comes time to work together.
Sources close to the former governor said relations between him and his successor, Adegboega Oetola, have deteriorated following the defection of some prominent state party figures.
Sunday PUNCH learned that the Aregbesola camp is unhappy with the departure of a certain politician from the APC, whom the governor could encourage.
Aregbesola, who spoke in Yoruba on a video of the event received on Saturday, joined some of the party’s supporters, including those who served in his government when he was governor. He said that he and his people would remain in the party, but would not associate with people with bad character.
Aregbesola also joined his supporters to sing some of the notorious songs that indicate that there are people he helped while in the office but became ungrateful.
Addressing his joyful supporters, he said: “The murderers have joined our party, and the law that our party is guided by does not say that we cannot accept them if the court has not sentenced them. Do you know the killers or don’t you know them?
“Do you know unbelievers or do you not know unbelievers? If we are in the same party, we will not accept anything that denigrates Bola Ige. He was our father. Bola Ige was our father in this area.
“Are you happy that Bola Ige was killed? I am the son of the late Bol Ige. Whoever denigrates Bola Ige is our enemy. Anyone who wants to use the tomb of Bol Ige to ascend to a higher altitude will not achieve their goal. When we want to apply for a position here, your name and background will determine how you will be treated. “
