The bandits killed two senior police officers and wounded one in Jigawa.
Two officers from the I and II crime department were killed and another wounded in a shootout with a group of bandits in the village of Kalgo in the Garki local government area of Jigawa state.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, shortly after the release of two people kidnapped by gunmen in the village of Bosuwa earlier this week.
A witness, Inuwa Kalgo, informed the vanguard that a joint security officer’s warrant had arrived in their patrol vehicles before heading into the nearby bush to find the criminals’ hideout.
He added that the gunmen had ambushed the police, and as a result of the shootout, two senior police officers were killed instantly and another was wounded.
The two killed security personnel worked at the Maygatari police headquarters, where they were informed of the incident and quickly arrived at the scene, but met their untimely death.
Another wounded policeman is currently in the Gumel General Hospital and is being treated.
When contacted, the PPRO Jigawa State Command, SP Abdu Jinjiri, confirmed the incident.
