The Council of the Emirate of Bauchi dismisses the legislator as the holder of the traditional title for disrespecting the emir.

Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi was removed by the Council of the Emirate of Bauchi from the position of the holder of the traditional title of Vakilin Birnin for disrespecting the Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwan Suleiman Adam, for his choice of clothing.

The suspension, contained in a three-paragraph letter dated May 16, 2021 and signed by Nasiru Musa Maidala on behalf of the Secretary of the Emirate, stated that the member representing the Bauchi Federal District in the House of Representatives had appeared in Alquebba (a kind of royal robe) and Kandiri (staff ) in front of a disrespectful emir.

According to the letter, written in Hausa, the legislator’s “inappropriate behavior” is tantamount to disrespecting not only Emir Bauchi, but also the district, village heads and other holders of traditional Emirati titles.

“The Council of the Emirate, chaired by Emir Bauchi, has thoroughly discussed your actions, which are disrespectful to the Emir, political leaders, councilors, district leaders and the emir.” the letter says.

The letter mentions an incident that occurred on Saturday at the Government House during the annual Sallah Havan Daushe festival held by Emir Bauchi and all the traditional rulers of the Emirate in honor of the governor.

“The Council gave examples of how you appeared before the emirs in Alquebba (a kind of royal dress) and Kandiri (a kind of stick), despite the fact that you were warned against doing so. What happened on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at the Government House, showed how disrespectful you are towards the emir, the traditional institution and the governor. “

“After careful consideration by the Council of the Emirates of your disrespectful actions towards Emir Bauchi, Dr. Rilvan Suleiman Adam, you are suspended as Vakilin Birnin Bauchi until further notice.”
