The suspects were charged with two counts bordering conspiracy and murder.
Two brothers, Sodiq Hamzat, 22, and Taoreed Hamzat, 22, were indicted in a custody center by an Iyaganku Magistrates Court sitting in Ibadan on Monday on charges of beating a motorcyclist to death after he refused to pay N100 for the day pass.
Sodiq and Taoreed, whose address was unknown, have been charged with two counts bordering on conspiracy and murder.
The magistrate, Ms Munirat Giwa-Babalola, who did not accept the defendants due to lack of jurisdiction, ordered their pre-trial detention at the Abolongo Correctional Facility, in the city of Oyo.
Giwa-Babalola said pre-trial detention was pending the outcome of the file at the Oyo State Ministry of Justice and updated the matter until February 21. 3, 2022, to quote.
The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that Sodiq and Taoreed are officials of the Oyo State Park Management System.
The attorney, serg. Oluseye Akinola told the court that the defendants conspired to commit the crime of murder.
Akinola said Sodiq and Taoreed on November 4th. 10, around 12 at the Queen Cinema area, Adamasingba, Ibadan, illegally caused the death of a 25-year-old motorcyclist, Dare Ojo.“The motorcyclist was allegedly beaten to death by debt collectors who are officials of the Oyo State Park Management System on charges of refusing to pay the N100 day pass.” One of the debt collectors allegedly stopped the motorcyclist and asked him to buy the newspaper N100 “The motorcyclist’s refusal to pay the ticket due to lack of money made the debt collectors fall on him” He said.
Akinola asserted that the offense is contrary to Article 316 and punishable under Articles 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II, Laws of the State of Oyo, 2000.
