The former CEO of the late Finbank Plc was found guilty on Tuesday by the Lagos High Court of stealing N18 billion from the bank.
Nwosu was convicted along with three bank directors: Dayo Famorothi, Danjuma Ocholi and Agnes Ebubedike. But while Famorothi received three years in prison, like Nwosa, Ocholi was sentenced to 12 months in prison, and Ebubedike received six months of community service.
Judge Latifa Okunnu, who delivered the verdict, also ordered Nwos and Famorothi to recover the stolen N18 billion.
The convicts have been brought before Judge Okunnu since 2013. Soon after the suit, they appeared before the Court of Appeal to challenge the validity of the charges, which led to the dismissal of the charges. appeal November 21, 2013
Dissatisfied with the decision of the Court of Appeal, the Commission on Economic and Financial Crimes went to the Supreme Court, which reopened the charges against the accused and ordered them to return to the Supreme Court for trial.
In his ruling on Tuesday, Judge Okunnu said the EFCC had proven the charges against the convicts beyond a reasonable doubt.
