The court sentenced the merchant to 12 shots for stealing the phone

On Friday, a trader named Abdullahi Sani was sentenced to 12 blows with a cane for stealing a $ 35,000 mobile phone.

The police accused Sani, who lives in Mabloba, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, of theft.

He pleaded not guilty.

Judge Gumbo Garba said the light sentence was due to Sani saving the court from a lengthy trial.

Garba hoped the punishment would serve as a deterrent for others.

Earlier, prosecutor Chinedu Ogada told the court that Sani committed the crime on February 8 at noon.

He said that Sani went to the 9th store on 321 Street, the store on the 3rd corner of Gwarinpa, Abuja, and stole a Tecno phone worth NZ $ 35,000 from Una Joseph.

He said that the police took Sani’s phone during the investigation and acknowledged his confession.

The prosecutor stated that the crime violated the provisions of article 288 of the Criminal Code.

Ogada requested a summary of the defendant’s trial under section 347 of the Delegation of Criminal Judges Act 2015 after pleading guilty.
