The first plane crash in Nigeria occurred on April 12, 1942, on Igbo Ilapa Hill in the quiet town of Ikogoshi in Ekiti state.

Aside from being a popular tourist attraction where hot and cold springs meet, Ikogoshi appears to be the first site to experience a plane crash in Nigeria.
How did the accident happen?
The Second World War was in full swing when a cargo plane carrying weapons and ammunition (including explosives) crashed at Igbo Ilapa in Ikogosi. The explosives resulted in a fatal disaster as they continued to detonate for several hours.

This set fire to the entire Igbo Ilapa, now called Igbo Baalu (forest of aircraft), and destroyed all living and nonliving in the environment. OldNaija realized that the pilot, with great effort, caused the plane to crash into a wooded hill instead of a quiet town, leaving many people dead and several houses destroyed.

Until now, on the hill you can find two leaky engines and other parts of the aircraft body.
And for a plane belonging to Nigeria, the first accident was recorded on November 20, 1969. The DC-10 aircraft belonged to the state. The plane took off in London and landed in Lagos. The plane crash killed 82 people, including the plane’s crew.
