The governors are the ones who run Nigeria, the president is only one person in Abuja.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan said state governors are the ones who “run” Nigeria.
The ex-president complained about the contradiction between the southern and northern governors, which, in his opinion, is inappropriate.
Jonathan made a comment, pointing out that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum remains the best forum for discussing issues affecting Nigeria.
He spoke on Sunday in Benin, Edo state to reporters, NAN reported.
Jonathan stressed that a roundtable meeting of all governors to discuss and propose solutions to the problems facing Nigeria will help the president.
“The governors themselves should continue to meet, I don’t really like the situation when the northern governors meet, and then the southern governors will cry badly.
“Then the governors of the South will meet, then the governors of the North will shout badly. This will not help our country.
“The governors must meet through the forum of governors, they are the people who run this country, the president is just one person in Abuja.
“The states, especially in a country where local governments are very weak, are the states where people return.
“So if state governors meet and talk, question what’s good for this country, then we’ll move on.
“I don’t really like the antagonism between the governors, they should get together and discuss.
“If there are issues affecting one or two states, I think the governors should see how they can collectively find a way to address those issues,” he added.
