A young Nigerian man died of his injuries after his girlfriend set him on fire.

Recall that 18-year-old girl Esther from the Ado Municipal District in Benue State, early on Monday morning, January 11, set fire to her boyfriend Elvis Chidinma Omah from the Nsuka Municipal District in the state. Enugu for the misunderstanding.

This sad incident was believed to have taken place in Makurdi.

Chidinma, a patented drug dealer who just returned from Christmas and New Years holidays last Saturday, has been in the village since Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

The troubles began shortly after friends informed Esther that Chidinma had gone to her village to pay the price of pride for another girl he intended to marry, a statement she vehemently rejected when confronted with Esther, but her answer was not satisfied.

As a result, Esther went to an unknown gallon gas station on Sunday night to buy premium automotive alcohol (PMS), commonly known as gasoline.

Esther came to his house early Sunday morning, stayed with him and pretended that everything was in order. They ate food and played together all night until they both fell asleep.

She then woke up a few minutes after 2 am and went straight to the place where she kept the fuel in front of Chidinma’s house, poured fuel for the room right inside while Chidinma was still sleeping. She lit the room with matches and immediately ran away.

Chidinma was burned beyond recognition, managed to get out with a shout that Esther had killed him, and was quickly taken to the Apir Federal Medical Center in Makurdi.

Reporting the details of the tragic event, eyewitness and neighbor of the deceased, Rose Stephen, said that she smelled and the sound of fire around 2 am on Monday; they went out and found Chidinma’s room on fire. They did everything they could, but they could not stop the fire.

He also stated that they both had problems and would always go to the police station in 2020, adding that Chidinma told Esther that he was tired of her bad characters and that he was no longer interested in her until the Christmas and New Years trip.

Rose said she was surprised to see them together shortly after Chidinma returned from the village from Saturday to Sunday.

Confirming this story, another eyewitness and one of the deceased’s closest friends, Abraham Ebute, said that Chidinma had clearly told Esther that he was no longer interested in the relationship with his child.
due to his undisciplined behavior and his criminal tendencies.

On one occasion, Chidinma was arrested for stealing a telephone belonging to an Air Force officer and was tracked down to Chidinma’s house.

Ebut added that Esther also stole Chidi’s phone before he returned home and promised to return it to him after he arrived, not knowing that her plan was to kill him.

He said that he ran to Chidinma’s house along with his other friends, but found that he had been burned alive.

When contacted by the public relations officer, PPRO, Benue State Police Headquarters Catherine Anen confirmed the tragic incident and the possible arrest of suspect Esther.

The PPRO said an investigation is still ongoing to uncover the bad situation.

Charred remains of mattresses, pillows, fabrics and other deceased materials were seen scattered outside the complex during printing

Chidinma’s body was brought to Nssuku by her parents, who were already in Makurdi at the time of this report.
