The Senate decides to create a Council of Hunters.
The Senate began legislative work to pass legislation that would legitimize the activities of various hunting groups in Nigeria.
The bill, entitled “Nigerian Hunter Council Bill in Nigeria 2020 (SB. 477)”, was sponsored by Senator Biodun Olujimi (NDP, Ekiti).
The bill, which passed its second reading in the Senate, will end the idea that groups have no constitutional mandate to operate.
Olujimi told reporters on Tuesday that once it enters into force, the law will also allow hunters to guard the area, maintain law and order, and offer public services to Nigerians.
