The former minister reacted to the seizure of the passport of one of the #EndSARS promoters and to the alleged freezing of the accounts of people identified as organizers of the #EndSARS protests.
Bring Our Girls Back Summoner Obi Ezekwesili told the Bukhari-led government to abandon “reprisals” against some supporters of the #EndSARS campaign against police brutality, saying it was not a military regime.
The former Minister of Education announced this on his Twitter account this morning in response to the seizure of the passport of one of the #EndSARS promoters, Ms. Odel, and to the alleged freeze of the accounts of people identified as promoters of the #EndSARS promoters.
Reads his tweets;
While other countries are trying to understand their priorities and strategies after COVID19, what do you think our country is doing? Well, Bukhari participates in repression against his young citizens, who limited themselves to asking permission for the life of the police, which he oversees.
We are a constitutional democracy and action must be based on the rule of law. Miss Odele’s passport cannot be withdrawn by the NAIA immigration controller on “orders” from the Nigerian army without a court order from the country. We are not a military state, Bukhari.
I am grateful to Femi Falana, SAN, for always ready to help in cases of serious injustice towards our citizens. Miss Modup Odel @Mochievous is not alone. Millions of sensitive Nigerians remain with her. She and her peers gave Nadezhda what Nigeria could be.
If the repressive acts of illegally seizing a citizen’s passport and freezing the bank accounts of others are aimed at intimidating and silenced young #EndSARS protesters, it means that the Bukhari government has not learned from hiring offenders to stop their protests. What a pity. “.
