Three killed when gangsters attacked Governor Osun with axes, others at #EndSARS protest

There are fears that at least three people were killed in the attack on Osun State Governor Gboyega Oetola.

They were reportedly killed on Saturday when the #EndSARS protest in the state capital, Osun, turned violent.

In addition, several vehicles in Governor Adegboyeg Oyetol’s convoy were damaged by an attack by alleged thugs at the protest site.

According to The PUNCH, the governor reached out to protesters at Olaya Junction when the situation became unstable and his security officers, trying to rescue him, began firing into the air while thugs fired rockets at the convoy.

Oetola apologized to the protesters for not reaching out to them after several days of demonstration and promised to investigate the police commissioner to establish the alleged involvement of the head of the national road transport union in the attack.

A few minutes later at 15:00, shortly after the governor arrived at the scene, one of the demonstrators, Olavale Bakare, asked him to apologize for refusing to fight the demonstrators after the nine-day demonstration.

Bakare also called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of NURTW leader Asiri Eniba, whom he accused of sending thugs to attack protesters.

But the governor denied sending criminals to attack the protesters and promised to pay hospital expenses for all injured during the protest.

His response, however, was not well received by the protesters, as bandits armed with sabers were seen standing in front of the governor’s car to prevent him from leaving the scene.

As they made their way through the crowd, the governor’s security details flew into the air as the thugs fired rockets and shattered the windows of several of the convoy’s vehicles.

The bandits, who were chasing the convoy on motorcycles along Rabochaya street Odiolovo, then returned to Olaya and lit fires along the road.

One person, who could not be identified immediately, was confirmed dead at Ladok Akintola Hospital in Osogbo.

A hospital doctor, on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that the deceased had died of a gunshot wound and that another man had been brought in and wounded at the protest site. urgency in the hospital.

In addition, there were fears that two more were killed as some thugs reportedly attacked the base of an unnamed NURTW boss at the end of Osogbo’s old garage on Saturday night.

A reliable security source said the thugs broke into the Old Garage and involved NURTW supporters in a brawl that left two people dead. But one of the protesters, Ola-Oluva Ovoei, said in an interview that three protesters were shot and killed by security officials who attacked the governor.

He said: “There were no attacks on the governor. The guards who were nearby were shooting at people. Three people are in the morgue after the attack. Our DJ and two others were killed. “

But State Commissioner for Information Funke Egbemode said: “It was an assassination attempt. This was definitely outside the scope of the #EndSARS protest. The people who launched the attack were not protestors at all.

“The protests have been going on in the state for several days now, and there have been no attacks on government officials since they started.

“However, today’s attack changed the story. It was not a spontaneous attempt. The attackers planned everything. They had guns and other weapons. In fact, it was the woman who smashed the car windshield of the State Secretary of State Prince Wole Oyebamiji where I was. “

When contacted by public relations officer of the state police Yemisi Opalola, he said that the data on the victims was not available.
